Now this is one track with a good story behind it….Our friend Adam Feder stormed into the house one good day and asked Luis to transcribe Larry Campbell’s terrific violin solo in Richard Schindell’s song Spring. It wasn’t easy… The melody just sort of kicks and jumps and there were so many gorgeous flourishes to tackle! But he did, and in the end we liked it so much that we decided to include it in our show and started playing it live just for kicks. To our immense surprise, Larry Campbell himself happened to be performing with us at one of those shows (with Dan Zanes and Jorma Kaukonen at Merkin Hall in New York City) and he was as surprised that we had taken the time to transcribe and learn his solo as we were to finally meet him!

lyrics

...our instrumental version of this song is very different from Richard's... but we still wanted to inlcude his awesome lyrics. You can also hear the original version here:

~ ~ SPRING ~ ~

By Richard Schindell
From the album: Somewhere Near Paterson

The day will begin like any other
Another sunrise in the east
It will reach across and touch you like a lover
It will tease you from a dream

And opening your eyes you will surrender
To the light that fills the room
And the hope that you have carried since September
You will offer up to June

Maybe will be certain
You can take it as a vow
Winter's just the curtain
Spring will take the bow

Looking out your window you will wonder
At the blooming in the yard
And every opening flower will be a mirror
Of the quickening in your heart

Maybe will be certain
You can take it as a vow
Winter's just the curtain
Spring will take the bow

The day will begin like any other
Another sunrise in the east
It will reach across and touch you like a lover
It will tease you from a dream
You won't remember

Maybe will be certain
You can take it as a vow
Winter's just the curtain
Spring will take the bow

~ ~ PRIMAVERA ~ ~
